UPENDO - One Kid at a Time was founded in 2015 with the aim to develop a sustainable support to orphaned children including children in hardships from unstable one parent homes due to the death of one of the parents, usually the mother, or a single mother abandoned by the child’s father and is unable to care for the child. Many of these children arrive at the orphanage straight from the hospital after birth or are found in abandonment at different outdoor and indoor locations at very tender ages.
UPENDO means “Love”. It is also the name of the Home where these children arrive and reside for five years of their formative years. The Home is run by Sisters of the Precious Blood with convents (Mother Houses) around the world including Tanzania. Most of their activities include caring for children and the poor.
