Christmas Shoes

Written by Board Member: Maria Blanchard

Prior to Giving Tuesday, Sr. Cinta reached out to me regarding the condition of the kids’ current school shoes. During our shopping trip in June, we didn’t have enough money left to get them school shoes. However, Sr. Cinta agreed that they could hold off until the end of the year in order to get everything else on their shopping list.

Linda Semali, a tutor and long-time volunteer, graciously did some checking in town with the best local cobbler. She found a gentleman who has agreed to hand-sew leather shoes for all of our kids for Christmas! The cost would be approximately 40,000tsh a pair. Since this is the season of Christmas, I knew the kids would love to go out to eat again like we did over the summer. They loved getting to go to town! Therefore, I calculated the cost of the trip to town, the shoes, lunch, and gasoline and it came out to $33 per child. I posted on Facebook and within 36 hours, all of our kids were sponsored!
